Time

In 1989, Mike and I founded what would be come the Social Comas. The one problem we had though was that we couldn't play the Guitar. Later that year, we stumbled upon our name while Mikes sister was defending her style of social life. When Jim asked if he could join the band in 1991, we knew he was a perfect fit because he couldn't play either.

Not long later, we were writing our own songs and figuring out how to play them on our guitars. There were many attempts to find the elusive 4th member that we knew we needed but no one seemed to fit. After a break from actively being a band, we regrouped in 1994 and just happened upon Brady, an old friend from high school. Suddenly everything we played sounded ten times better. We knew that the band was complete. We began writing real music.

In Late 1995, we went into the studio for the first time to record an album. We planned to lay down 12 songs with 16 tracks each in 3 days. The first day went as scheduled. Brady was able to lay down all the drum tracks on the first take. We then spent every Saturday for the next 11 months at the studio. Several songs had new parts written for them because we didn't want to waste any of those 16 tracks. Those were some of our most fun moments as a band.

It ended up being the death of us though. All studio time and no jam can really wear you down. In the Summer of 1996, Jim stopped showing up because all his parts had been recorded and we were just finishing up mixing all the songs. As Mike and I finished the mixing and got everything put onto CD we realized that we just might never get to perform those songs as a band again. By Fall, it was official. Jim was too busy with other things. Brady didn't want to be in the band without Jim. But at least we had the CD so we could would be able to remember just what it was like.
